พีคกับคนแปลกหน้า

แม่เลี้ยงพีคตามแบบที่คุณยายเลี้ยงแม่มา แม่ไม่เคยคิดที่จะพา พีคไปเดินตามซุปเปอร์มาร์เก็ตหรือห้างสรรพสินค้า และ แม่ก็ไม่ค่อยเห็นด้วยนักที่คุณพ่อคุณแม่บ้านอื่นพาเด็กตัวเล็กๆ เที่ยวไปตะรอนอยู่ตามสถานที่ที่มีคนหมู่มาก เพราะแม่คิดว่าจะ ทำให้เด็กๆ เหล่านั้นมีโอกาสติดเชื้อได้ง่ายมาก

เมื่อแม่จะแวะห้างสรรพสินค้า แม่จะฝากพีคไว้ในรถกับพ่อ แล้วรีบวิ่งอย่างเร็วจี๋ไปหาซื้อของใช้ที่ต้องการให้เสร็จเรียบร้อย ภายใน 10-15 นาที พ่อและแม่จะระมัดระวังมากเลยกับเรื่อง สุขภาพของพีค แม่มักจะบอกพ่อเสมอว่า "อย่าป่วยเด็ดขาด" และแม่เองก็ระมัดระวังเรื่องสุขภาพของแม่ด้วย ฉะนั้น ขณะนี้พีคอายุ 8 1/2 เดือนแล้ว พีคยังไม่เคยป่วยเลย อีกเหตุผลนึงที่สำคัญทำให้แม่ต้องระวังเรื่องสุขภาพเพราะ พีคยังทานนมแม่อยู่ แม่เองพยายามชักชวนให้แม่ทุกๆ คนหันมาเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่เสมอ

เท่าที่บรรยายมาทั้งหมดก็เพื่อจะให้รู้จักสภาพแวดล้อมของพีคดีขึ้น และแม่เองก็สายใจที่ได้เลี้ยงพีคตามแบบที่แม่ต้องการโดยเลี้ยง ที่บ้านในขณะที่พีคยังเล็กอยู่ ดังนั้น พีคจะรู้จักและคุ้นเคยกับคน ใกล้ชิดอยู่เพียง 5 คนเท่านั้นในบ้าน ได้แก่ คุณตา, คุณยาย, พ่อของพีค และป้ามัน (ซึ่งช่วยเรื่องงานบ้าน แต่ว่าไม่ได้ดูแลเด็ก) ป้ามันอยู่กับพวกเรามานานกว่า 20 ปีแล้ว และพวกเราเองก็คิดว่า ป้ามันเป็นเหมือนญาติคนหนึ่งของเราทีเดียว คนที่เหลือก็คือแม่เองจ้ะ พีครู้จักคุณปู่ คุณย่าก็จริง แต่ก็ไม่คุ้นเคยเท่าไหร่นัก เพราะพวก เราพาพีคไปไปเยี่ยมเยียนคุณปู่คุณย่า อาทิตย์ละครั้งและอยู่คุย ประมาณ 2-3 ชั่วโมงเท่านั้น

เมื่อวานนี้ (8 มิย. 43) ป้าน้อยและน้าปุ๊เพื่อนที่ทำงานของแม่มาเยี่ยมพีค แม่กลัวเหมือนกันว่าพีคจะตื่นตระหนกกับคนแปลกหน้า แม่จึงค่อยๆ พูดคุยกับพีค และแนะนำเพื่อนแม่ให้พีครู้จัก ดูท่าพีคไม่ค่อยสนใจป้าและน้าเท่าไหร่นัก พีคเอาแต่จ้องมอง ดูหนังสือของตัวเองขณะที่แม่และเพื่อนพยายามพูดและเล่นกับพีค แต่หลังจากนั้นสักครู่เดียว พีคก็อ้าแขนแล้วเข้าไปหาน้าปุ๊ แล้วก็เลยพากันไปเดินเล่นในสวน, รดน้าต้นไม้, เดินไปเดินมา รอบๆบ้าน, เอาไม้หนีบผ้าย้ายไปหนีบตรงอื่น ย้ายไปย้ายมา

คุณตาดูท่าว่าจะแปลกใจมากที่เห็นหลานชายหัวเราะเสียงดังเช่นนี้ พีคสนุกมากทีเดียว เมื่อถึงเวลากลับ ดูท่าพีคเศร้าๆ ชอบกล แม่อุ้มพีคให้โบกมือบ๊ายบายป้าน้อยและน้าปุ๊ ส่วนพีคทำเสียงสงสัยอยู่ในลำคอ

พวกเราทั้งบ้านดีใจที่เห็นปฏิกิริยาของพีคกับคนแปลกหน้าซึ่งกลายมาเป็นคนคุ้นเคยกันได้ แม่พยายามเลี้ยงพีคให้เป็นเด็กที่เต็มไปด้วยความสุขเหมือนที่พีคเป็นอยู่ในขณะนี้ แม้แต่พ่อเค้าก็ยังประหลาดใจที่พีคเข้ากับป้าและน้าทั้งสองได้ดี

Peak and Strangers?

We raise up Peak in a way like how my mom did to me. We never bring him to the supermarket/ department store and in fact we are very much against parents bringing small kids to the community, thus exposing their babies to diseases which they are not immune to. We did pass by the Dept store but I left Peak with his dad in the car and hurried to get the things I need in 10-15 minutes. We are very carefull with Peak's health. I always tell his dad "never to get sick" and be very cautious about my health. So far after 8 1/2 months, he has never been sick. Another reason which is very important is that Peak is still breast feeding. I really encourage everybody to breastfeed their babies. The above narration is for you to get to know Peak's background that we are happy to raise him at home while still young. So, Peak only knows few people and is familiar with only five faces in the house, Khun Tah, Khun Yay, his dad, Pa Mun (ป้ามัน)-(She helps us with the housechores but she does not baby sit. She stays with us for more that 20 years and we treat her as our relatives) and me as his mom. He also know Khun Poo and Khun Ya but is not very much comfortable with since we only bring him for visit once a week and stay for 2-3 hours. Yesterday, June 8, 2000, two of my officemates, Pa Noy and Na Pu

(ป้าน้อย น้าปุ๊) visited Peak. I was scared at first that Peak will have stranger anxiety. I gradually talked to him and introduced my colleagues to Peak. He seemed not interested in them, started looking at his books at first while we tried to talk and play with him. After just a while, to our surprise, he lifted up his hands and went to Na Pu. They played at the garden, รดน้ำต้นไม้, walked around and transferred the ไม้หนีบผ้า from one place to the other, Khun Tah was surprise to hear Peak laughed out so loud. He enjoyed himself a lot. As they were about to part, Peak was sad. I carried him and waved goodbye to Pa Noy and Na Pu as Peak made questionable noises. We were all very pleased to see Peak's reaction towards strangers. We will try to raise him up as a happy child as how he is at the moment. His dad was equally surprise with him.
